Denis Savard is a Blackhawk legend who's marked the Windy City in many ways...from his Spin-O-Rama moves, to being traded for Chelly, to his fiery stint as 'Hawks coach -- which didn't provide a Stanley Cup but did leave us the memorable mantra of "Commit To The Indian"!!
Frustrated by the lackluster play of his team, Savvy implored them to "commit to the jersey, COMMIT TO THE INDIAN!" -- giving birth to a battle cry that was both passionate and politically incorrect, just like the passionate members of Blackhawk Nation. The motivation wasn't enough to get that squad to the post-season, but it lit the spark that returned the team to the playoffs the following year and drove them to reclaim the Cup in 2010 (and again in 2013).
With the emergence of the dynamic young duo of Toews and Kane to round out the talent present in Sharp, Seabrook and Keith, we’ve seen not only pride return to Chicago hockey, but a dynasty that shows no sign of slowing with the COMMITMENT shown by Toews/Kane via long-term contracts and the emergence of younger players like Hjalmarsson, Saad and Teräväinen. In 2013 we’ve reached our third Final in six years and have come to expect excellence.
Never again should we forget the fire that Savvy showed us was missing -- wear this tee and remind yourself (and others) at all times what Blackhawk hockey is all about and to show your commitment.
