The intense Eastern Conference Finals have tempers flaring on the court, and interesting moments in the press rooms. From LeBron’s tantrums to the Birdman’s suspension to D-Wade’s flopping/flailing to the Roy Hibbert press conference, this has become more of a reality show than a sporting event. Basketball Wives’ Husbands?
Hibbert's remarks constituted the latest controversy – make that controversies: his joking drop of a “NoHomo” reference (an homage to a running joke on Adult Swim’s The Boondocks), and his use of an M-F bomb when chastising the media for its limited attention span.
In a social media world that lives to instantly condemn any perceived public misstep, Hibbert was immediately labeled homophobic for his quote, when it was really just poking fun at himself for the intimate description of his bond/unity with his teammate. “NoHomo” as used by the Boondocks (and Hibbert) is not a slander, it’s essentially a gender-bender version of “That'sWhatSheSaid” (as used for years on The Office)…but that won’t stop the crucifixion (or the league fines).
Whatever – Hibbert was having fun with it, and so will we with this silly new design that pokes fun at Hibbert and graphically explores how far he’d go, so long as he could bail himself out with a quick “NoHomo”. It partly defends, partly condemns but mainly just plays around with the crazy notions of “controversy” in a Twitter-driven world.
